Healing in the Word

DAY 2 OF 5

The Humility of Healing

Naaman was a man of power, influence, and victory. As commander of the army of Aram, he had gained the respect of his king and his people. Yet, for all his achievements, he had one problem he could not solve—he was a leper. His strength could win battles, but it could not heal him. His wealth could buy him favor, but not a cure.

How often do we find ourselves in Naaman’s position? We may be successful in many areas of life but still have struggles that we cannot fix on our own. Whether it’s sickness, sin, or brokenness, we all face something that reminds us of our need for God.

A Small Voice, A Big Faith

Naaman’s journey to healing began with the voice of an unlikely messenger—a young Israelite servant girl. She was a captive, a foreigner in his household, yet she had faith in the God of Israel. She told Naaman’s wife, “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy” (v. 3).

Sometimes, God speaks through the least expected people. This servant girl had no position of power, yet she held the key to Naaman’s healing. How often do we dismiss the wisdom God places around us because it doesn’t come from the sources we expect?

A Lesson in Humility

Naaman, in all his wealth and status, went to Israel expecting royal treatment. He brought silver, gold, and fine clothing, assuming that healing could be earned. But Elisha, the prophet, did not even come out to greet him. Instead, he sent a messenger with simple instructions: “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored” (v. 10).

Naaman was furious. He expected a dramatic display of God’s power, not a humble act of obedience. He said, “Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel?” (v. 12). He almost missed his miracle because it did not come in the way he expected.

How often do we do the same? We want God to move in grand, miraculous ways, but sometimes His answer is simple: Obey. Trust. Surrender. The power of healing was not in the Jordan River itself, but in Naaman’s willingness to submit to God’s instruction.

A Cleansing Beyond the Physical

When Naaman finally humbled himself and dipped in the Jordan seven times, his flesh was restored “like that of a young boy” (v. 14). Not only was his body healed, but his heart was changed. Later in the chapter, Naaman declares, “Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel” (v. 15).

God’s healing is more than just physical—it is spiritual. He desires to cleanse us from sin, pride, and self-reliance, just as He cleansed Naaman’s leprosy. True healing comes when we let go of our expectations and trust in God’s ways.

May we learn from Naaman’s story that healing comes through humility, obedience, and faith in the God who restores.

Respond to God’s word:

Naaman almost missed his miracle because of pride and expectations. How often do we do the same? God’s instructions may not always make sense to us, but healing and breakthrough come through obedience.

Today, take a step of faith. Is there an area in your life where God is calling you to obey, even if it seems too simple or unexpected? Surrender your expectations and trust His way. Just as Naaman was cleansed when he humbled himself and obeyed, you, too, can experience God’s power when you step into obedience.

Don’t let pride or doubt keep you from your breakthrough. Obey, trust, and receive what God has for you!

Prayer

Lord, create in me a humble heart. A heart that is sincere and wholeheartedly seeks You. I depend on You, Lord. Heal me in a way that only You can. In Jesus’ name, amen.
