More Than Just a Story - the Book of JohnNäide

In today’s scripture reading, we see the Jewish leaders looking for Jesus. They are searching for Him high and low. These men are passionately trying to find the guy who claims to be the Son of God, the long-awaited Messiah. They were asking others about Him, trying hard to find Him. Unfortunately, they are pursuing Him for all the wrong reasons. They were full of themselves. They had years of schooling and thought they had all the answers.
This section of scripture reminds me of a time in my own life, about 45 years ago. I had recently completed years of schooling and had received my doctor’s degree. I was pretty full of myself, and I thought I had things pretty well figured out. You could have just asked me, and I would have been glad to tell you!
Then, a man of the trades, whom I had hired to complete some work, shared the Gospel message of Jesus Christ with me. The things he told me about the forgiveness of sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ started me on a search of my own. I became passionate as I gathered additional information about the scriptures. I started attending a Bible study and asking others about Jesus. Unlike the Jewish leaders of Jesus' day, I wanted to find Jesus so that I could have a personal and eternal relationship with Him—and I found Him!!!
Thoughts to consider:
- What do we learn from the Jewish leaders?
- What do we learn from a young, know-it-all doctor?
- What do we learn from a man of the trades?
