Acts 10:34-48 | Confronting Your Blind SpotsNäide

What are you blind to? It’s not an entirely fair question, because if we knew what we were blind to, we wouldn’t be blind to it.
But think, for a moment, of all the things that happen that we take for granted of which we are entirely unaware. As a quick example, let’s take the digital device you’re reading this plan on right now. What does it take to manufacture, distribute, and run it? Think for a moment of all that must go into it from start to finish—mining the metals that make the circuits, customs and environmental safety issues for materials imported from overseas, designs and specifications and quality control. The countless hours of coding. The wifi or cell tower infrastructure it depends on. The chemical and electrical reactions that make them work. The power grid that recharges them. The people who develop the software. The business operations, management, and HR departments that keep everything working together in the same direction. And then, all that goes into sustaining each of those operations. It’s staggering.
We live blind to most things, completely unaware of what it takes. And that’s just one small example. Expand that out to the products we use, the communities we live in, the roads we drive on, the relationships we enter into, the psychology of the people we interact with day-to-day and you quickly realize just how much we’re blind to.
The same is true in the spiritual. How much is God doing behind the scenes of which we are completely unaware? What are his plans? Where is he leading? What does he want of us? How is he sustaining this world day-by-day? We’re often so blind to it, either ignorant of his way or groping in the dark and searching for his presence and plan in this world. It’s the story of the Bible. It’s the story of human history.
But God wants people to see. The Bible uses the word “see” (along with its cognates light, sight and seeing) over a thousand times. Add to that all the passages talking about how we’re blind, what God reveals, revelations, and mysteries disclosed, and you’re left with a staggering witness of God to become aware of who he is and what he’s up to.
Acts 10 is about blind spots. Tomorrow, we’ll get into it. Today, read a simple parable by Jesus about sight and blindness. Ask yourself what you might be missing when it comes to God and his way.

About this Plan

Sometimes God wants us to see things differently. Because sometimes, we’re blind to what God is doing. This 5-day plan continues a journey through the book of Acts, the Bible’s gripping sequel of Jesus at work in the life of his followers as he expands his kingdom to the ends of the earth. It’s a journey on what it means to be a Christian. It’s a story in which you have a role to play.
