The Gospel of Luke

DAY 1 OF 14

Trust in the Goodness of the Lord

There are an estimated 8.1 billion people in the world as of 2024. Crazy huh? How difficult is it for us to even imagine a number that big? 8.1 billion is a number that is ten digits long, that number will barely fit on a standard calculator! If you’ve ever been to the Big Apple, New York City, there’s a chance you’ve felt like there are 8.1 billion living in the city alone! In moments when you’re waving down a taxi or trying your best to navigate the crowded streets, you’re met with the reality that you’re one of many, a humbling experience to be sure! Now imagine if the mayor of New York City sent a messenger to tell you that he wants to bless you, yes you! How many of us would believe the messenger? After all, we are just one person in a huge city. Compared to everyone else, we aren’t that special.

We may not know New York’s mayor, but we do know the universe's creator! God has revealed Himself to us in the Bible. Among many other things, He tells us that He loves us and that He wants to bless us! Do we believe that He wants to bless us when we are one in 8.1 billion? We should because He does! Not because of who we are, but because of who He is; because God is loving, merciful, faithful, and kind… because God is good.

Zechariah’s mouth was shut and he was unable to speak for months because he doubted that God would bless him. Ultimately, he doubted God’s goodness. Mary, on the other hand, believed God would bless her, not because of who she was, but because she knew who God was! How many of us trust in the goodness of God? How many of us believe that He wants to bless us, little old us? The great thing is that our God is good and He wants to bless us. Meet God in faith and watch Him bless your life!

Questions to ask yourself:

  1. In this season of my life do I feel like a Mary or a Zechariah? Am I meeting God in faith and accepting His blessings?
  2. In what ways can I read and study the Bible to remind myself of God’s goodness?

What’s next?

  1. Pray and ask God to remind you of how much He loves you, not because of anything you could do, or who you are, but because of who He is.
  2. Meditate on the ways that God has blessed you in your life and remind yourself that although you may change, He never will. He will always love you and bless you, so meet Him in faith!

Pray this prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank you for who you are. I am grateful for the truth of your Word and the goodness of your nature. There are a host of blessings that you wish to bestow upon me. I pray that you give me the ability to believe that you will bless me, not because of who I am, but because of who you are.
