Respect your Body
In a scene from the movie Fireproof, the main character, Caleb, was looking at a boat on his computer. All of a sudden, a pop-up to an inappropriate site appeared. The tone of this scene gives us the feeling that this is something that he has struggled or is struggling with. Caleb had to make a choice. He could choose to give in to lustful desires or flee from this sin.
Has something like this happened to you? While surfing through various channels, have you ever slowed down or stopped to view something you probably shouldn’t? Have you ever clicked on a link or thumbnail to a site you should not be viewing? Has your social media platform algorithm shown you an inappropriate reel that tempted you to view more like it? What choice did you make? Did you indulge or flee?
In 1 Corinthians 6:18, Paul writes, “Flee sexual immorality! Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body.” When we succumb to lust, we are sinning against our own body. We should respect our bodies.
Returning to the Fireproof movie scene, Caleb had had enough this time. He decided it was time to flee from this sin, so he took his computer outside and destroyed it with a baseball bat. This was his way of fleeing by getting rid of the temptation. In our lives, we may have to be careful what we watch on TV, what we view on social media, and where we take our phones.
In 2 Timothy 2:22, Paul advises Timothy to flee from youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace instead. This is a call to action for all believers. We are to replace the desires of the flesh with the fruits of the Spirit. Focusing on what is good and pure can strengthen our resolve and draw us closer to God.
Remember, fleeing from lust is not a sign of weakness but a testament to your commitment to living a life that honors God. Stay strong and keep your focus on Him.
