Forgiveness Is...

DAY 6 OF 9

Forgiveness is an attitude

Salaam!

How are you feeling today? Did forgiving bring you freedom and relief, or has it mostly been a challenging process? Please share your experience with me.

As we read a few days ago, Corrie ten Boom had an experience in which she felt instant and supernatural love for the person she had to forgive. However, this is often not the case.

For most people, including myself, forgiveness is a continuous journey, an ongoing attitude.

“Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart”. ― Corrie Ten Boom

In Matthew 18:21-35 Peter comes to Jesus and asks:

"Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answers, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times”.

What are the odds that the same person hurts you 70 x 7 = 490 times? It’s possible but unlikely. I believe that Jesus is teaching us to have an attitude of continuous forgiveness.

The Bible says:

Get rid of ALL BITTERNESS, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you”. – Ephesians 4:31-32

Sometimes, you might think that you have forgiven someone, but then, unexpectedly, the pain or memory of the offence resurfaces. This is a sign to forgive again, over and over, until you get rid of ALL bitterness.

This process takes time, but you’re not alone. I am here to support you.

Let me pray for you:

"Heavenly Father, I pray that You help my friend to develop an attitude of forgiveness. Give them the courage to confront any lingering bitterness and the strength to forgive, over and over again.’

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
