It's not about you, but you're still important
All salvation is instigated by God, through His grace, as we put our hope in Jesus. Too often the Gospel is seen as human-centred. Jesus died for me. End of story. While true, He has done so much more than that! God is redeeming ALL of His creation to Himself. And yes, we have a chance to be part of it, but God’s already done it. Our role is simple – to acknowledge our need for Him, accept His grace, and live in relationship with Him. There’s no easier and more difficult a life to live.
Easy in the sense that we are guided by the One who created and sustains the entire universe. He has a plan, and we’re a small part of it. Not a pawn, but a part. God works in and through us, His image bearers, to bring about His redemptive plan. His Spirit empowers us to speak boldly about His faithfulness and goodness (Acts 6:10). He promises that He is always with us (Matthew 28:20b). And He reminds us that He is all we need (Psalm 23).
It’s difficult because we are foreigners in this world. We live in the now and not-yet of the kingdom of God. Jesus’ uncomfortable promise that we will suffer (John 16:33) is wrapped up with His promise that we are to take heart; He has already overcome the world. Yes, life is difficult. But God has a bigger plan than we can see.
We are called to remember that we are not saved solely from our sin. We’re also saved for others (Matthew 28:19), and for God’s glory.
