One Desire: A Love for JesusSample

One Desire: A Love for Jesus

DAY 3 OF 3

Day 3 - One Desire

In the song “One Desire” Sound Chapel sings: “You set my heart on fire, You are my one desire.” It is hard to live on fire for Jesus and even harder to make Him our one desire. There are various things fighting for our attention at any given point - from work to children to social media to friendships. While all of these things are beautiful, they can quickly end up in the wrong order: Above Jesus.

In “Practicing The Way Of Jesus” (mentioned in the Day 1 devotional), John Mark Comer discusses where thoughts tend to lie. He writes, “In the little moments of space throughout your day… where does your mind fall “without thinking” about it? Let’s be honest: For most of us, it’s not to Jesus…” (p. 41).

And we can say confidently that he is 100% correct - our resting headspace isn’t one that focuses specifically on Jesus. It is hard to keep our hearts aflame or our desire for Jesus first & foremost when we are so busy with other thoughts.

During the Sermon on the Mount (articulated over the course of Matthew 5-7), Jesus gives some guidance on how to keep Him as our first desire - despite all of the worries of the world around us: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33). The Bible Project explains this verse beautifully - explaining that seeking first the Kingdom of God looks like trusting that God has better promises in His Kingdom than what the world can offer, “By trusting that promise, we can slowly begin to see how we are already free from any ultimate danger.”

Putting Christ at the center of our world and seeking His Kingdom first is how we ultimately reach our truest desire: to be covered by Christ.

Take a moment today to pause & reflect on where your desires lie. How can you shift them back to Jesus?

Go in peace, friends.

Day 2

About this Plan

One Desire: A Love for Jesus

In a world where various things are constantly vying for our attention, it can be incredibly hard to keep our attention on Jesus. Inspired by the song "One Desire" by Sound Chapel, join us on a 3 day journey to focusing our desires more and more on Jesus alone.
