Sorry Not SorryNäide

When we go before the throne of grace in prayer, so often, we don’t just come on our own. We bring all our baggage with us—all the hurtful things we’ve said, all the misdeeds done against us, all the worries and cares that we’ve been holding onto, all the things that continually weigh us down. Believe it or not, this is actually what God wants from us! He wants us to bring all our heavy burdens, lay them down at His feet, and feel the freedom that comes with receiving total forgiveness and grace. And yet, time and time again, at the end of our time of prayer and reflection, we go right back to picking up all those heavy burdens we just laid down. This is the exact opposite of what God intended for us! Just as God wants you to feel the freedom that comes from a life free from sin, God wants you to feel the freedom that comes from letting go of the anger and resentment you may be holding on to in life.
Today, think of a person in your life who you have struggled to forgive. Of course, it may take time to be able to choose total forgiveness, but right now, you can choose to take a first step. Spend some time in prayer, asking God to help you show forgiveness to that person. Then, as you leave your time in prayer, close by asking God to let you leave that burden where you placed it: at His feet.

About this Plan

Forgiveness feels like something that we know we should do, but it isn’t always something we actually do. We all sometimes find it hard to live out forgiveness in our everyday lives. It’s hard to find a way to let go, but what if there is a way to let go and forgive? In this devotional, we’ll look at the way forgiveness can work in our lives to move us toward freedom for ourselves and others.
