The Finish Strong: Transition Through Seasons SeamlesslySample
Day 7: Visioning with God
“It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out” - Proverbs 25:2
As we move into a new season or year, it is tempting to get caught up with the buzz of goal setting, creating vision boards, making resolutions and so on. I am not saying these things should not be done, but we should always seek to understand the vision for our lives (season) from the One who created us and authored our lives. Living without this and choosing to live based on our own vision will not lead to true success. It may lead to success as defined by the world and the masses but not success according to God.
As you set out to prepare for this next season of your life, ensure you do so with God at the start rather than bringing Him as an afterthought and asking Him to bless your plans. This is not to say that God will not bless you, but this will never yield the optimum outcome, which is God's plan for your life. We need to understand that God is under no obligation to bless that which we do outside of Him. He is a KING & MASTER!
"Outside the will of God, there is nothing I want. Inside the will of God, there is nothing I fear." -A.W. Tozer
Vision is a picture and perception of the future. It is a visual manifestation of one's purpose and assignment. It is the capacity to see the invisible and believe the impossible. It is seeing beyond one's natural eyes. Proverbs 29:18 tells us that a lack of vision is detrimental and can cause destruction. It is important we understand that though our destiny is chosen by God and our future is already written by Him, the choice of whether or not we live it is ours.
This means that aligning with God’s vision is extremely important in the life of a follower of Jesus. He does not expect us to figure things out on our own but rather, he invites us to partner with Him so we can understand His vision for our lives and consequently live it out on the earth. We are to live as ‘sent’ ones; people of His kingdom who have been deployed on the earth to fulfill His mandate. There are actual books and scrolls in heaven that declare your purpose and provide details about your existence on earth.
Success for a believer is living out the books and scrolls written about us; not what we produce in our flesh, or what society expects, or someone else's scroll. Success from God's perspective is different from what the world defines it as.
Understanding vision from God's perspective instills discipline in our walk as believers, puts us on the narrow path God designed for us, and influences the choices we make in life.
Visioning with God is really about seeing things from God's perspective. Before you set out to plan your next season or write any goals, ask God to specifically give you a vision and something you can run with for this period. This will require you to invest time with God, and you can also look to do so while on a retreat or a fast.
Journal what God says and shows you. You may need to do this overtime, so do not be discouraged if things seem hazy at first. Keep at it; it will get clearer. God wants to speak to you more than your desire to hear from Him. We hear Him by faith, so be encouraged!
