It is a sobering reality that God may give people over to spiritual blindness, deafness, and hardness of heart. This happens when individuals repeatedly hear the Word but refuse to receive it. With each rejection, their hearts become more resistant, and over time, they lose the capacity to understand God's truth.

Many people are unaware of the profound responsibility that comes with hearing the gospel. Rejecting it places one in great spiritual danger, as it hardens the heart and dulls the ears to the message of salvation. Preachers are accountable for delivering the Word faithfully, but we are equally accountable for how we receive it.

Even Jesus' disciples came to Him with questions, seeking understanding, and He explained the truth to them. In the same way, we must approach God with open hearts, eager to learn. We should be deeply concerned for those who hear the Word but do not receive it, yet remain indifferent. That indifference is perhaps the most dangerous spiritual state of all.

How often do we hear the Word of God but fail to truly receive and act on it? How might that affect our spiritual growth? What are the subtle ways we harden our hearts to God’s message, and how can we soften our hearts to become more receptive?

Are we aware of the personal responsibility we carry in responding to the gospel? What changes might we need to make in our approach to hearing and applying it? How can we cultivate a spirit of humility, like the disciples, to seek understanding when we are confused or resistant to God’s teachings?
