Abide, Adore, Ask and Agree: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting With Rock City ChurchSample
DAY 2
We were created to abide with God – to live and dwell in His presence. Genesis 3:8 gives us three incredible benefits of what 'abiding' looked like in the first 'temple' – the Garden of Eden. First, Adam and His wife heard the sound of the Lord. When we abide with God, we are near enough to Him that we can hear Him! We recognize His voice and His movements. Second, God was walking in the home He made for Adam and Eve. Abiding with God not only means we aren't alone but that all we have is His, and He is free to move as He pleases. Third, God's presence was found in the cool of the day. As a walk at dawn or twilight refreshes one's mind, abiding with Christ also provides rest and peace for our souls (see Matthew 11:28-30 and Hebrews 4:9-11).
Now, we have a choice – the same one Adam and Eve had. Will we abide with God, or will we separate ourselves from Him? After Adam and Eve sinned, "they hid from the Lord God." If God is to be the Lord of our lives, and we want to experience the benefits of His presence, we must surrender every part of our lives to Him – hiding nothing!
REFLECTION
1. How have you heard the Lord's voice or seen His movements in your life?
2. Is there any area of your life you haven't surrendered to the Lord?
3. What rhythms in your life could you create that would help you enter into the Lord's rest and peace?
PRAYER FOCUS
Ask God to reveal if there are any parts of your life you are still hiding from Him.
