A Season of Waiting

DAY 8 OF 28

A Promise Kept

God made a promise to His people of hope and restoration. This promise came at a time when the relationship between God and His people seemed all but lost. Israel had disobeyed, and their land was filled with injustice, idolatry, and corruption. Because of their continued sin, Micah announced God’s impending judgement.

Yet, in this dark outlook, Micah 5:2 shines like a beacon of hope.

This prophecy foretells the rise of a ruler from Bethlehem who’ll lead Israel. But this is no ordinary ruler. He 'come[s] forth for me’, says the Lord – He’s on a divine mission, appointed by God. His ‘coming forth is from of old, from ancient days’, revealing His eternal pre-existence. This ruler, promised long ago, is not just from God; He is God.

Matthew 2:6 reveals the fulfilment of this prophecy: Jesus born in Bethlehem is the promised ruler. God’s promise of hope and restoration in Micah 5:2 is fulfilled in the sending of His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for the sins of the world. Jesus is the hope we long for – the one who brings restoration to humanity, living in a perfect world under God’s rule.

In a time of political instability and moral decline, God made a promise. And God kept that promise in Jesus. Now, we live in the hope of His return. God has promised that Jesus is coming again. He will keep that promise. Are you ready for His return? Let the hope of Christ guide your heart as you prepare for His coming.

About this Plan

A Season of Waiting

“The original definition of advent was used to describe the preparation time to welcome the arrival of a person or event of significance. For Christians, it is a time to prepare to remember the birth of Jesus as our saving one (Messiah).” (What Is Advent? Kath Henry). As we approach Christmas & the New Year, read along with this plan and focus your hearts back on Him.
