EquipHer Vol. 5: "Leadership Choices"

DAY 2 OF 5

Day 2: The Strength of Vulnerability

In a world where vulnerability is often seen as a sign of weakness, we may feel tempted to hide our fragility in order to appear stronger in the eyes of others.Yet the Bible teaches us that our strength lies precisely in our vulnerability.

Sarah Louden, founder of Total Health and a friend of the EquipHer Community, reminded us at our 2024 conference that “we are not limitless,” and that sometimes we need to acknowledge when we need help. Consider King David, a man after God’s own heart, who never hesitated to express his fears and insecurities before the Lord. In the Psalms, David reveals his humanity and his total dependence on God, showing us that it is not perfection that makes us strong, but the humility to recognize our limitations.

2 Corinthians 12:9 offers us a profound and surprising truth: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God does not expect us to face life’s challenges alone or rely solely on our own strength. Instead, He invites us to make room for His grace right where we feel the most fragile. When we acknowledge our weaknesses before God and ask Him to intervene, He can manifest His power through us, making us living testimonies of His strength. Isn’t that extraordinary?!

This perspective encourages us to embrace vulnerability as a leadership asset rather than weakness, as seeking help can be the catalyst to foster innovative ideas, renewed energy, and stronger relationships.

Reflection Question

  • What aspects of my life do I tend to hide out of fear of appearing weak towards others?

Prayer

Father, teach me to recognize and embrace my fragilities, knowing it is there that Your strength is made perfect. Grant me the courage to be authentic, to ask for help when I need it, and to build relationships based on truth and mutual trust. Amen.
