Day 4: Life in the Spirit
Romans 8 is probably one of the most beloved chapters of Scripture. It’s the one that gets to the heart of living in the Spirit.
But Romans 8 isn’t just a feel-good chapter. Paul starts things off with a major mic drop: “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” If you’re in Christ, that weight of guilt and shame? Gone. That’s freedom on a whole new level. But it doesn’t stop there—the Spirit is the source of power that resurrects dead things in your life—including you (Romans 8:11). The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is living in you. That’s not poetic language. The Holy Spirit is the one who animates God's creation, and He even animates our very lives.
After this, Paul takes it even further: you’re not just a follower, you’re family now. You’re adopted, you’re heirs of God, you’re co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:15-17). That’s mind-blowing. You’re not some random acquaintance that God’s mildly interested in; you’re His child, and nothing—absolutely nothing—can separate you from His love (Romans 8:38-39).
Are you leaning into that? You've been sealed with the Holy Spirit and love of God. So there is nothing that can separate you. Nothing in all of creation, both heavenly and earthly. Nothing can separate you from Jesus's love for you.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I need Your power and presence. Fill me, guide me, and help me to live fully in the freedom and love You provide. Remind me that I am a child of God. Amen.
