Let's Talk About Sex

DAY 4 OF 5

Day Four –The Consequences of Sex

Satan’s primary mission is to destroy us by any means necessary (see John 10:10). He knows what our weaknesses are and seeks to find a variety of ways to make us his dwelling place.

The story of Jesus delivering a man from an unclean spirit in Mark 1:25-26 should encourage us to consider two factors: spirits are real, and they can compromise us. Sexual intercourse, outside of marriage, is only one way Satan can achieve this because of the nature of sin.

Galatians 5:19 tell us, “Now the works of the flesh are manifest which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness…”

Verse 17 emphasizes, “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh.” Therefore, the two are contrary, and ultimately the believer has a choice to either submit to the flesh -or- to the Spirit; we cannot be led by both (see 1 Samuel 16:14 and Luke 22:3).

Adding to this, Jesus reveals His thoughts on how a man can be defiled here, in Mark 7:21-23: “For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

When we commit willful sin, we are not living by the Spirit, but by the flesh. Until repentance and deliverance is achieved, this is how a believer can be compromised by a spirit that is not of God.

Making a commitment to abstain from sex before marriage is not only honorable but righteous. A promise ring can be helpful and serve as a daily, symbolic reminder of your commitment.

Tip: Should you not have a promise ring, use a special piece of jewelry until you wish to replace it. The next step to abstinence is yours!

Please find a quiet place to pray: Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me that my body is a temple and your spirit dwells in me. When I engage in sex outside of marriage, I know this is offensive to you and destroys your temple. I repent and ask for forgiveness. I declare with my mouth, and with this promise ring I’m placing on my finger, that I will no longer engage in premarital sex or any sex outside of Your will. I am asking you to take away my sexual desires to prevent me from repeating the same mistakes until You are ready to bless me with a spouse. Thank you for drawing me closer to you. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (see Philippians 4:13). In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.

About this Plan

Let's Talk About Sex

Let's Talk About Sex is a five-day Bible plan that explores sexual immorality and the importance of honoring God with our bodies. Scripture is used to illuminate what the Creator thinks about sexual intercourse before marriage. Bree challenges single men and women to embrace celibacy with a promise ring as a symbol of their pledge to God.
