DAY 5 OF 21

Understanding Purpose for your Family

Hello friend. Welcome to Day 5 of our journey together. Today, we'll explore the profound concept of family purpose and its significance in shaping our lives and impacting the world around us.

But, before we begin, I’d like to pray for you.

Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you today with hearts open to receive your wisdom and guidance. As we explore the purpose of our families, may you reveal to us the significance of our roles within our households and communities. Guide our reflections, Lord, and help us to align our hearts with your divine purpose. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

I invite you to find a quiet place where you can reflect and give yourself entirely to Jesus. If you’re listening to the audio, you can follow along with my voice. Get comfortable and remove any distractions.

Did you know God's family has a purpose? Yep! There is a grand narrative to the story of God’s family; a reason, or many reasons for existence. One of those purposes is to stand in direct defiance of culture, to glorify and magnify His name.

Throughout God’s Word, we can see one of those narratives play out. The Israelites were called to stand out in what they ate, how they dressed, how they worshiped and much more. All of it was to point to and glorify God. We, as Christians, have a part to play in that grand narrative too. We, too, are called to stand out in today’:s culture to glorify God. Jesus calls it being “the light of the world”.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5: 14-16

Just as God’s family was created for a purpose, your family also has a unique and divine purpose. It might not mean you have to stand out in a crowd, but God intentionally brought you together, with your family members, each with specific values and qualities, to fulfill a greater purpose in His plan.

That’s a little wild isn’t it? Have you ever thought about that before? That God put your family together to help accomplish a bigger purpose?

What do you think that bigger purpose is? Take a moment and consider the question, ‘what is my family’s purpose?’

As you ask God, he might reveal to you how your family is uniquely gifted or positioned to contribute to a larger purpose. It could be a skill you all have, or a passion your family shares. How could your family's values, beliefs, and experiences uniquely contribute to a larger purpose?

[PAUSE FOR REFLECTION]

Let’s think back to that grand narrative in God’s family. In order to accomplish a large goal, each member of God's family plays a vital role. In the same way, each member in your home also plays a vital role, and when family members are united in their purpose, they become a powerful force for good in the world.

So, reflect on the specific ways God might be calling your family to shine His light in your local community, your group of friends, your church, or in the larger stage of the country, or even world. Take time to pray and seek His guidance on how you can collectively fulfill your purpose as a family, bringing glory to His name and impacting those around you for the better.

Remember, your family's purpose is not just about existing or going through the motions of daily life. It is so much bigger than that! It's about actively engaging with God's plan and being intentional about how you live out your faith together. Allow God to reveal His purpose for your family and trust Him to guide you every step of the way.

Let’s pray for that.

Heavenly Father, thank you for creating and preparing our families for a special purpose. We trust that in your sovereignty, you know what you’re doing. And, we pray that you share that plan with us. Lead us and guide us to see, shine light on the uniqueness of our families and how our speciality can play a vital role in your plans. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I’ll leave you with Jesus now.

Seek Him on what great plans he has for your family and how you are a vital part of it.

It isn’t an accident that your family is together, so make the most of it.

Take all the time you need.

I’ll talk with you tomorrow.
