Daily Bible Reading— August 2024, God’s Guiding Word: FaithNäide

August 17
Introduction
Judges 16:1–22: Samson’s story features many references to the LORD’s power making him strong (13:25, 14:6, 19; 15:14). While strong physically, he seemed weak in other ways. His encounter with Delilah surfaces his weakness and leads to his betrayal, as Delilah tricks Samson into revealing the source of his strength.
Today’s Key Verse: Judges 16:17a
“My hair has never been cut,” [Samson] said. “I have been dedicated to God as a Nazirite from the time I was born.”
Reflect
What role did Delilah play in enabling the Philistines to capture Samson? What prompted Samson to reveal to her the source of his strength? What happened to him when he was captured? Based on her actions, how would you characterize Delilah?
Pray
Lord God, surround me this day with your love and care and help me avoid deception so that I am not tempted to stray from your will and what is pleasing to you. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Judges 16:23–31: Samson’s final act against the Philistines results in his own death.
