DAY 3 OF 5

SIN

Today, we have to acknowledge an hard truth:

We are not perfect as we are.

While our culture would try to tell us that there is nothing wrong with us, and offers us various excuses for our nature, the truth is, every one of us is corrupted by sin.

Sin is more than brokenness, more than bad behavior, more than disobedience. Sin is in the DNA of humanity, corrupting our souls, placing us in rebellion to God. It is at the center of all human conflict. Sin is not just a big problem, it is THE problem.

If we are going to be Christians, and follow Jesus, then we cannot downplay sin. We have to be willing to confront it honestly, first within ourselves, and then in the world at large. This doesn’t mean becoming the holiness police, and trying to point out everyone else’s sin, rather it means that we have to humbly, and honestly, turn away from our sin, and toward God.

As terrible as sin is, there is good news: God gives grace generously TO THE HUMBLE. What does it mean to be humble? It means recognizing that you cannot change yourself, that you cannot erase your sin, and that you need God to do it for you.

The good news is this: God is ready, willing, and able to forgive, and transform you. In fact, if you will just step away from your sin, and toward God, He will step toward you. You are not alone, abandoned to suffer from the consequences of sin. You are welcomed by God, in spite of your sin, to draw closer to Him.

The hard truth is, you are not perfect.

And an even more important truth is, that in Jesus, you are being perfected.

Turn toward God, and celebrate the fact that He is ready to receive you.
