Choose a Life of Eternal Impact

DAY 1 OF 5

Our Purpose

“Choose a Life of Eternal Impact”

Missionary C. T. Studd once said, “Only one life, it will soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.” His words emphasize the value of living a life of eternal impact.

If we want to discover our purpose and choose a life of eternal impact, then we have to begin with four simple action steps found in Colossians 3:1-2. Here is a preview of what we will discover together.

  • On Day 2, we will reflect on our salvation: “You have been raised with Christ.” The foundational truth of our salvation in Christ sets up everything related to our purpose and having a life of eternal impact.
  • On Day 3, we will reorient our desires: “Set your hearts on things above.” We will consider what our driving motivations and passions are. When we follow Jesus, He challenges us to seek after eternal things, not earthly things.
  • On Day 4, we will rejoice in our Savior: “Where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” There is nothing greater than the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus.
  • On Day 5, we will refocus our thoughts: “Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.” Remember, we will never change our life until we change the way we think.

As you read each day, take time to do three things. First, ask God for insights to understand His Word and help to apply it. Second, discuss what you are learning with others. Third, find one action step each day to take as you choose to live a life of eternal impact.

Let’s go deeper on each of these key points and learn what Paul was trying to teach the church at Colossae about choosing a life of eternal impact. In the words of Jim Elliot: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”
