IT’S TIME to FLY a 7-Day Devotion by Joy A. WilliamsSample
Being Determined in Delays
As we overcome fears and grow in our dependence on God, two thirds of our flight plan – “fear not” and “lean hard” – are in sight. But the third leg of our journey awaits. We must yield completely to God’s will. His will is the thought, word or deed that is acceptable and pleasing to the Lord. In the light of His mercy and grace, it is our reasonable service (Romans 12:1-2).
However, I’ve often wrestled with what seems reasonable in my walk with God. For example, for years, my husband and I battled infertility. Eventually, through prayer we experienced God’s prompting and peace to adopt a child. We discovered our yielding was the way to God’s “yes.”
Without yielding to the Lord, we would have missed the tremendous blessing of our son. It wasn’t the natural course of things. But surrendering to God’s will always grants us access to His supernatural power. With God, we can press through what hinders us and grab hold of what will, ultimately, amaze us.
Even as you’re reading this, you may be in a place of wanting and waiting for God to move in an area of your life. You may feel like it’s too late or you’ve lost too much. Yet, there is another side to your story. It is the redemptive side and it is waiting for you to yield to God’s yes for you too.
Yes, He wants you to trust He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28-29).
Yes, He can create beauty out of the pile of ashes you’re looking at right now (Isaiah 61:1-4).
Yes, He is able to do far more than you can ask, think or imagine according to the power working in you (Ephesians 3:20-21).
These promises are declarations for our faith hesitations. If you wrestle with knowing God can bless you but wondering if He will, it may feel like you’ve missed your chance to FLY. It’s only happened to me once, but I know the frustration of missing an airplane flight. I made it to the gate, but there was no plane to board. I could see my missed flight going down the runway without me.
After inquiring with the airline, another flight was available. Eventually, I made it to my destination. In fact, I missed a storm the earlier flight had to face. Be encouraged. Even the smallest amount of faith can still hear God whisper, “It’s time to FLY.”
FLY: Are you willing to press through what feels uncomfortable or unreasonable and consider how God might lead you to something unimaginable by His grace?
PRAY: Dear God, I long to hear Your “yes” to my desires. Yet You desire for me to trust You in all things. So, I give You my “yes.” Through faith in Jesus, I give You my life. Thank You for shaping the redemptive side of my story. In Jesus’ name, amen.
