Come Up From the Let Down a 5-Day Devotional Plan to Cope With Being Let Down by People by Alicia Renee’ Roberts

DAY 4 OF 5

Rising Above Disappointment

Regardless of the burden or the pain, you don’t have to stay in a sunken place. Your spirit may have been rattled, but God is there to wrap His arms around you and sustain you.

Psalm 55:22 NIV says, “Cast your cares on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”

You’ve learned how to acknowledge and cope with the hurt. You’ve shifted your full hope and expectation to God, and now it’s time to rise up and move forward. The shock may have caused you to freeze, but you must continue.

There may still be work that needs to be done or problems that need to be solved. We cannot remain stuck when there is life that needs to be lived! It is so great to be able to look back with gratitude at the obstacles that you’ve overcome. The rising is a season of hope and victory.

Once you’ve prayed and allowed God to mend the brokenness, you need to declare and decree that the giant of disappointment will not overtake you, and instead, you will be victorious in the end. Here are some ways that you can rise above the disappointment and press forward:

  • Get busy working to find and implement solutions. You don’t have to wait for anyone but God. Trust God to direct you. Ask Him to provide you with the resources and support that you need. Psalm 25:5 NIV says, “Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you, I wait all the day long.”
  • Remember where your strength comes from and know your worth. You may have felt weak momentarily, but remember Philippians 4:13 NIV, which says, “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.” Remember, that’s ALL things, not some.
  • Pray without ceasing, and don’t stop believing that it will work out according to God’s will. Mark 11:24 says, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
  • Protect your mind and your heart in the future. Unsupportive people and those who don’t value you are not worth much of your attention.

Reflection: In what ways is disappointment still keeping you stuck? What do you need to relinquish to God? Pray for a willingness to rise up and have true transformation.
