Know What You Believe: A 5-Day Devotional for Unwavering FaithSample
Believing for the Impossible
Mark 9 shows Jesus having a mountaintop experience with his disciples Peter, James, and John. After this experience is over, and Jesus is transfigured, they return to a crowd. A man from the crowd brought his son for healing, but the disciples who were left could not cast the spirit out of the boy. In Mark 9:22, the man says to Jesus, “But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us’” (ESV). Jesus’s response in verse 9:23 says, “‘If you can!’ All things are possible for one who believes.”
Jesus’s powerful response was a bit of a scoff. He used this moment as an opportunity to teach that anything is possible for anyone that believes. It serves as an important reminder that belief in God makes it possible for us to do all things. When we believe in Jesus, we are able to tap into his power and accomplish great things.
This crazy belief should follow us into our workplaces, schools, and other environments. We should remember that we are called to be God’s people in the world, and we have the ability to partner with his glory to accomplish the good things promised in Scripture. Wearing our radical belief in God everywhere we go allows him to show up and do what he does best — transform lives.
Let’s go into our environments believing that everything is possible while allowing Christ to inform and correct any areas where our belief may lack. Our unyielding belief will allow us to serve others in a way that truly honors God.
