The Balanced Bible Reading Plan

DAY 2 OF 365

“Plan Introduction, Part 2 of 4”

Yesterday, we talked about having a well-balanced diet of spiritual nourishment, and we ended by asking what that could possibly mean. Here’s the answer:

The Bible is to the spirit what food is to the body. Now, imagine that someone had followed you around last year faithfully recording everything you ate, the amount you ate of each item, and had arranged the list in alphabetical order. Pretty strange, you might say. The list might look something like this:

Apples 102
Asparagus 9
Bacon 297
Beets 41
Bread 322

Next, what if this person told you that he had done this so that you could eat in a more organized manner. Everything you ate for the next year had to be eaten following the ordered list. All meals, starting on January first, would consist of apples, nothing more, until you had eaten 102 of them, and you couldn’t have any more for the rest of the year. Next, you would eat only asparagus (Yuck!) for at least two meals, etc..... By the time you finished eating 102 apples, you might never want to see another one again for the rest of your life, and no one would blame you. This is exactly what we do when we try to read the Bible from cover to cover. The Bible is, after all, 66 books (66 types of spiritual food) arranged according to type.

We talk about food groups and eating a well-balanced diet. Could the same be true for our spiritual nourishment? Tomorrow, we will look at the spiritual food groups found in the Bible as I, and others, have identified them.

About this Plan

The Balanced Bible Reading Plan

This plan views the Bible as spiritual nourishment, and just as the best, most enjoyable diet is one of balanced variety, this plan offers daily readings from 6 spiritual "food groups" like this, for example: Each day you will have a 1) CREATION/LAW appetizer, a 2) HISTORY main entrée with a side dish of 3) POETRY and 4) PROPHECY with 5) GOSPELS/ACTS to drink and 6) LETTERS for dessert. ENJOY!
