Priesthood of Every Believer

DAY 3 OF 7

Lesson 3: The Great Commandment

In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus distills the essence of the Law and the Prophets into two commandments: love for God and love for neighbor. This lesson explores how these commandments underpin our identity as a royal priesthood and inform our mission on earth. Loving God with all our hearts, souls, and minds is not an abstract concept but a call to a deep, personal relationship with Him that transforms our values, priorities, and actions. It's about devotion that permeates every aspect of our lives, influencing how we interact with His creation and reflecting His love for the world.

Similarly, loving our neighbor as ourselves extends this divine love horizontally to the people around us. It challenges us to see others through God's eyes — valuing them, serving their needs, and showing compassion and kindness. This second commandment is a natural overflow of the first; our love for God fuels our love for others, manifesting in acts of service, forgiveness, and advocacy for justice. As members of the royal priesthood, we're called to embody this two-fold love tangibly, becoming conduits of God's grace and love in a broken world.

This lesson emphasizes that the Great Commandment is not merely about feelings but actions stemming from a committed heart. It's about making daily choices that align with God's will, seeking to glorify Him in everything we do and say. This love-driven way of life is foundational to living out our priestly calling, representing God on Earth, and fulfilling the Great Commission.

Action Step: Spend time in prayer, asking God to reveal someone in your life who needs to experience His love through you. Plan a specific, actionable way to demonstrate that love this week, whether through a word of encouragement, a helping hand, or a gesture of forgiveness.

About this Plan

Priesthood of Every Believer

This 7-lesson Bible study focuses on the biblical doctrine of the priesthood of all believers. It emphasizes that every follower of Jesus is called to live out their priesthood, representing God on Earth and obeying the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. This series underscores the truth that in Christ, there is no division between clergy and laity — all are called to serve.
