The Great CommissionSample
Modern Day Disciple
The words ‘The Great Commission’ are universally applied to these verses at the end of Matthew’s Gospel to signify their importance. It is literally like asking, ‘What was the last thing they said to you?’, meaning that, beyond everything else, this is what we need to remember.
The importance of the verse hinges on two main things. Firstly, these are the words of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, recently risen from the dead, having rightfully been given all power and authority in heaven and earth. Therefore we ask, ‘Now who are these disciples?’ Is this just an historical document directly, and only referring to Jesus’ original disciples?
Or, alternatively, is Jesus talking to us now as His 21st Century followers to continue to be faithful disciples, making further and future faithful disciples. The commission was not just to make church goers.
Did you notice Jesus’ final words – ‘And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Why not take this opportunity to ask Jesus, personally and directly, through prayer, to make you a disciple, and/or help you disciple others for Him. And to do this with His constant presence and power.

About this Plan
Becoming a believer is not just about accepting Christ into our hearts, submitting to His Lordship and surrendering to the transformation process. It’s also about serving in His kingdom and sharing the Gospel (We Are All Ministers – Abigail George). Over the next week, pray for the Lord to bring you opportunities to tell people about Him – He will be there right alongside you!
