How to Stop Watching Porn

DAY 1 OF 6

Don’t Fight Alone

Imagine there’s an angry, 500-pound grizzly bear scratching at your front door. How would you respond? Wait, don’t answer just yet—we’ll get there. First, let’s talk about how you’re going to fight porn today.

In a world where porn is readily available, resisting temptation can feel almost impossible. But there’s good news: Our loving, grace-filled God wants to help us find freedom from porn. This Plan is full of practical tips and wisdom from Scripture to help you make a personalized strategy for overcoming porn. Let’s get started!

Early in the Bible, God compares temptation to a wild animal that wants to break into your house. So let’s run with that imagery and get back to the hefty, hungry bear with the big claws and sharp teeth threatening to break into your house … what would you do about it?

Well, we wouldn’t recommend you go outside and challenge it to a one-on-one fistfight. Alone, your odds aren’t ideal. Instead, we’re guessing you’d probably call for help. If we want to fight the temptation to watch porn, our first step is to seek help. And where do we find this help?

First, we pray, calling on God to help us make healthy choices. Then, we seek help from Scripture, trusted friends, and spiritual leaders.

By starting this Bible Plan, you’ve taken a brave next step to find healing. But don’t stop here. Your best next step is to tell someone about your struggle with porn.

Yes, it’s scary and it can be awkward to share your porn struggle with others, but it’s so much more difficult to keep fighting temptation on your own. So don’t listen to the voice of shame telling you to stay silent. Stop fighting the grizzly bear on your own. Continue seeking help and include others in your fight against porn.

Pray: Dear God, thank You for loving me, no matter what. Please help me to find healing and freedom from porn, and give me the courage to share my struggle with others. I know that You’re with me, so I’m never truly alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Challenge: Tell someone about your battle with porn today. Tell a trusted friend, pastor, counselor, or family member.

If you’re unsure who to talk to or want more friends who follow Jesus, consider joining a LifeGroup. LifeGroups are small groups of people who encourage one another to pursue their relationships with Jesus. If you don’t already have a church of your own, here’s how you can get connected with a local or online Life.Church LifeGroup.
