Day 2 – Redeeming the Time

It’s 6:50 am, and my feet are pounding the pavement. It’s cold, and I’m tired, but at noon I will redeem this hour for the second time. It is then that I will go outside and play with my two young children, using my lunch break in a way that a traditional workplace would not allow for. Certainly, there are many benefits to working from home–from how we use our break time to a lack of commute to a general ease that comes from being within our own space. And God can certainly move mightily in this redeemed time if we allow Him to. Before the Industrial Revolution, for most of human history, people have worked from home. The biblical mandate of holding family in high esteem could arguably be better honored in a work-at-home scenario. Raising your children is kingdom work with generational change and eternal results. Even those without children can use the time they would have spent commuting to find a deeper way to connect with God. Suddenly there is time for a morning Bible study or intercessory prayer to begin the day. Maybe you can prayer walk around the neighborhood or read an enriching devotional that will make you become a more effective witness to others.
