Christian Courtship vs. Dating

DAY 1 OF 3

Day 1 - Dating: Getting to Know Each Other

Dating in today's context is a social practice encompassing shared experiences, mutual understanding, and potential romantic prospects. It entails individuals spending time together to explore their compatibility and build a foundation of companionship. Through various interactions, couples assess their affinities and whether a deeper connection is possible. This often involves engaging with multiple individuals at different junctures, enabling them to broaden their perspectives and discern their preferences for a potential life partner.

Biblical Perspective on Dating

While "dating" is not explicitly mentioned in the Bible, the principles of mutual respect, honesty, and purity are emphasized. Proverbs 4:23 encourages guarding one's heart, reminding us to be mindful of the relationships we form and to honor God in our interactions. "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

"Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts diligently, for it is the wellspring of life."

Dating provides an opportunity for individuals to learn more about themselves, their desires, and what qualities they value in a potential spouse. However, Christians should approach dating with discernment to determine whether the relationship aligns with God's plan for their lives. It is important to set clear boundaries in dating. These boundaries are not meant to be restrictive but rather protective. They help individuals maintain purity and holiness in the relationship. The apostle Paul emphasizes the importance of maintaining purity in relationships in (1 Corinthians 6:18-20) "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20: In these verses, the apostle Paul emphasizes the importance of maintaining purity and honoring God with our bodies.
