When You Fast

DAY 2 OF 4

Fasting to Birth Prophecies

And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; and she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. Luke 2:36-38 (NKJV)

Prophetess Anna understood that we can birth or manifest prophecies by praying and fasting. Thus, she was consistent and persistent in making those spiritual sacrifices for Jesus’ arrival. If you want the prophecies you received for the year, your life, family, etc. to manifest, you need to birth them by giving yourself to praying and fasting. Fasting without praying is not a spiritual exercise but a weight loss strategy.

Prophetess Anna spent her life praying and fasting before her encounter with Jesus. Praying and fasting kept Prophetess Anna’s spirit high and alert. Thus, she recognized Jesus when she saw him. Like Prophetess Anna, we can keep our spirit high and alert so we will not miss life-changing moments of encounters. One way I live a fasted life like Prophetess Anna is to tune myself daily to what the Holy Spirit is saying before making breakfast plans. I invite you to do the same.

Until we become consistent and persistent in making the spiritual sacrifices of prayer and fasting, our lives will lack the power to birth events that attest to the truth that Jesus lived and died for humanity. If we are indeed tired of people mocking our God and questioning Jesus's existence, we must master our flesh and give ourselves to praying and fasting like Prophetess Anna.
