Mentoring Lessons- It's Never Easy!

DAY 3 OF 5

What lies down the road?

Are you prepared for anything as you travel?

I visited a gifted leader in his home country and as is the usual practice, he picked me up from the airport. We hoped to discuss his future plans for his country. As we drove toward his home, we saw a speeding van in front of us go straight through a police blockade. To our surprise, a police officer jumped in the back seat of our car and ordered us to chase the fleeing van. I felt like I was in an action movie! Fortunately, we caught up with the escaping driver without a gunshot being fired.

Some years later, this gifted leader died in a car accident. This was a terrible loss for his family and the movement. He never fulfilled those plans. We don’t know what lies down the road!

On another trip to a different location, my host suggested we drive 16 hours on a motorway to an important planning meeting. Traveling at high speed, we neared our destination when a car cut right in front of us, shooting across the road and landing upside down in a pond. We realized how close we came to our lives ending. We stopped to render assistance. We pulled one person alive out of the upside-down car. Another died at the scene. By God’s grace, we escaped from what would have been a horrific accident.

Scripture to ponder –James 4:4

How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it's here a little while, then it's gone.

Key Lesson: You don't know, even one second ahead, what lies down the road. Be prepared for positive and negative adventures that will differ from your plan.

About this Plan

Mentoring Lessons- It's Never Easy!

Leadership- Many want it, but few understand the cost of being one. Leadership is not the position or designation; it is the heart. It is never easy, there is a cost you pay, sacrifice to make & willingness to serve. This study explores the price one pays to be a leader. A good leader does so cheerfully, willingly & from the heart.
