Remember Jesus Christ [Knowing Jesus Series]

DAY 3 OF 7

It is relatively easy to forget about a person that you barely know. That's why our knowledge of Jesus Christ must be tied to the revelation that comes from studying His Word, and the relationship we develop with Him through a life of prayer and faith. Indeed, without a relationship, there is no revelation (and the other way around).

When thinking about knowledge, we must avoid thinking that this simply consists of learning biographical data or collecting historical information about Jesus. Instead, God invites us to engage with the Bible to seek understanding, which goes far beyond taking the action of just reading it. Biblical understanding focuses on reflection and practicing what has been learned, leading to a higher level of devotion and personal transformation.

The apostle Paul went on to say that the church's ministries exist to train believers in the work of ministry and build up the church to achieve unity in the faith and knowledge of the Son of God (Ephesians 4:11-13). If the knowledge of Jesus Christ is part of the mission of the church, then it is indeed vital. In reality, only the biblical, experiential, and personal knowledge of Jesus will help the believer understand their faith.

Furthermore, the writer to the Hebrews presents the knowledge of Jesus Christ as the elementary teaching upon which the rest of Christian doctrines rest (Hebrews 6:1-2). The people to whom the author of Hebrews addressed this letter had become 'dull of hearing' or 'slow to understand' (Hebrews 5:11-12), indicating their spiritual sluggishness in grasping the faith that had been transmitted to them. We must guard ourselves against this and embrace the Spirit's invitation to return to the elementary teaching about Jesus.

Reflect

How does the knowledge of Jesus Christ relate to the rest of the teachings of the faith?

Pray

Lord Jesus, I thank you for the opportunity to know you through your Word and see you at work in my life every day. Amen.

About this Plan

Remember Jesus Christ [Knowing Jesus Series]

"Can a Christian forget about Jesus?" The apostle Paul encouraged young Timothy never to stop remembering Jesus Christ. Since we live in a world of distractions, we risk losing our focus on Jesus. Through this devotional plan, I invite you to rediscover the importance of knowing Jesus Christ as he is presented in Scripture. The goal is to keep our lives centered on Him until the end.
