Now we can start making some change right!

I mean it says right here this is a key. Yet the discipline here seems to be pointing at the person in the mirror. As I reflected upon discipline as a leader a few items came to mind such as doing the hard things when no one is looking, consistency and dedication to doing what is right no matter the personal cost. Discipline is not always fun, but it shows up as being reliable and someone you can trust.

Trust is incredibly hard to gain, especially as a new leader or with new team members. The discipline that is demonstrated daily as the leader sets the tone for the entire team. It looks like serving relentlessly and being prolific in maintaining the standard that you want to demonstrate as a leader.

Take it too far and you may miss the joy that comes when the team celebrates a milestone and that would be a severely missed opportunity. Give yourself grace as the leader and at the same time continue to walk in discipline daily.

When it is all said and done, being a leader opens up a plethora of areas that can naturally lead to fear – however, for me, when those items surface, approaching it with the mindset of how I can use power, love and discipline to make better decisions and serve others seems to be the better path forward. Do you agree?

Questions to Consider

  1. What areas do you need to strengthen as a leader to build more trust with your team?
  2. Which attribute do you decouple the most and how can you be intentional about bringing it back into focus?

Scripture provides three qualities that when coupled together are extremely powerful when fear arises - let’s explore those together.
