God Sees You!

DAY 4 OF 5

The Need for Empathy

Being able to relate and understand what others are going through is very important in your walk with God. It’s called empathy, and it’s a valuable skill to have. The Bible also encourages us to build each other up. So do you cheer others on while you're still waiting for your turn in life? Or do you get jealous of their progress?

The Bible even gives us several stories of people who have gone through their own struggles and trials. Stories like Job, Joseph, Elijah, and Paul are only a few examples of devoted Jesus followers who went through trying times and extreme hardships. Ultimately God used their trials for good!

When you use an empathetic ear and listen well to others as they tell their stories, you are considering their thoughts and learning to love them as they are. Compassion offers understanding and the ability to listen well which makes up a key part of your spiritual growth.

God often puts people in our lives to speak to us through encouragement when sharing experiences in life. When we see the flaws of others, we can connect in our weaknesses. You never know who you’re going to inspire or encourage just by sharing what you have gone through. And listening to others’ struggles helps you relate and encourage them too.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 tells us to “encourage one another, and build each other up.” We are all going through our own trials and difficult times. For example, if there is someone in the church struggling with depression, pulling them aside and sharing with them what you see as their strengths can help. Empathy and compassion will help them understand they are valued by you and God.

When we encourage another person, offer support, build up their confidence, you are helping to restore hope.

God doesn’t forget or ignore His creation.
God hasn’t forgotten about your friends.
He hasn’t forgotten about your family.
God has most definitely not forgotten about you!

He has a plan and purpose for your life.
