I’m John Ortberg, and I’m overjoyed you’ve chosen to go on an Advent journey with us. I’m a part of Become New, a ministry dedicated to helping you grow spiritually, one day at a time. Together, let’s celebrate this Advent season in a Bible Plan I’m calling, “With.”

Why “With”? When Jesus came to earth, one of the names He was given was “Immanuel.” It means “God with us.”

Have you ever stopped to wonder why God felt the need to become human in the first place? Why did He send Jesus down in bodily form? The late Dallas Willard, a philosopher known for his work on spiritual formation, said it’s because human beings are stuck in this hole of trying to manage their lives. We needed––and still need––someone to come down and bring about the idea of another world.

So here’s the whole purpose of this Bible Plan. This Christmas, let’s let Jesus remind us of the world that is yet to come. The one in which we do not yet live.
