The Law of Process

DAY 5 OF 8

Jacob and The Law of Process

Have you ever wondered why some seem to achieve success effortlessly, while others face challenges and setbacks on their journey?

Life is a process. Personal growth requires patience and perseverance. Today, we’ll explore Jacob’s life, and how it relates to The Law of Process.

Jacob, whose name means “supplanter” or “heel catcher” was born holding onto his twin brother Esau’s heel. From the beginning, Jacob’s life was marked by competition and striving. He desired God’s blessings, but had much to learn about the process of becoming the person God intended.

In Genesis 32, Jacob is at a critical point in his life. He was about to face Esau, whom he’d stolen from years earlier. The night before the encounter, Jacob wrestles with a mysterious man until daybreak. This was not merely a physical struggle, but a spiritual battle that revealed Jacob’s inner turmoil and need for transformation.

As day breaks, the man asks Jacob to release him, but Jacob refuses, saying “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” Jacob recognized the significance of this encounter and understood that he needed God’s blessing to move forward. In response, the man changed Jacob’s name to Israel, which means “he struggles with God” or “God prevails.”

This renaming marked Jacob’s surrender to God’s process.

We see The Law of Process throughout Scripture. In Romans 8:29 we read that God predestined us to be conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. This transformation involves various experiences, challenges, and lessons. Like Jacob, we must embrace the process of growth, allowing God to shape us into who He created us to be.

During seasons of adversity, it can be tempting to become discouraged. But remember that God is at work in your life.

God isn’t finished with you yet.

Trust in His timing. Stay faithful, seek His guidance, and allow Him to refine you like gold through the challenges and triumphs of life.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the example of Jacob and the lessons we can learn from his life. Help us embrace The Law of Process and trust in Your timing. Give us the patience and perseverance to endure the challenges and uncertainties of life, knowing that You are at work in us. Mold us into the image of Jesus, and use us for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
