My (Ministry) Life Verse

DAY 3 OF 3

More Than Enough

One of the wonderful miracles Jesus performed in His earthly ministry was the feeding of the 5,000. According to the Gospel of John, a large crowd followed Jesus to see His signs and miracles, and Jesus decided that He and the disciples would feed them. Mind you, neither Jesus nor His disciples had 5,000 sandwiches on hand, ready to hand out, but Jesus had a plan. As the story goes on, the disciples found a boy who had five loaves of bread and two small fish. This, of course, was nothing in the face of the large need in front of them (5,000 people would need way more than five loaves and two fish!). But remember, Jesus had a plan. Jesus took the loaves and the fish, gave thanks, and miraculously distributed enough food for every person in the crowd.

Throughout this devotional, we’ve talked about living a life of impact and purpose. With that in mind, we would do well to pause and notice something significant in this story: Jesus took the small offering of food, and He was able to do much with very little. This should be a great encouragement to us when we feel that we don’t have much to offer. Often, we get hung up because we feel our talents are too small, our contributions too insignificant, or our purposes too vague. Well, Jesus knows how to do much with very little! This is good news! Just like He transformed the young boy’s meal into a feast for the multitude, Jesus takes our lives and makes them instruments for His divine purposes.

God isn’t waiting for a future version of ourselves to join Him in the work He wants to do in the world around us. He’s ready to take what we have in our hands now and use it for His glory. Remember this the next time you feel discouraged about what you have to offer. Your life, your gifts, and your work for the Kingdom are precious to God. It may seem little to you, but in God’s hands, it’s more than enough!

Thought of the Day: I may feel discouraged or insecure about what I have to offer God. It may seem small in my eyes, but in God’s hands, it’s more than enough. Today, I will not hesitate to offer all that I am and all that have, because God knows how to do much with little.
