Strong as a MotherSample
People have a lot of advice for moms when it comes to sleep. Especially new moms. You know it; say it with me, “sleep when the baby sleeps.” Ok, cool, I’ll just forego showering, eating, and laundry. Actually, if you are reading this and have a brand-spanking newborn baby, yes. Pick one out of three (I recommend eating!) and sleep, girl! Also, I promise that your precious cherubim will eventually sleep longer than 73 minutes at a time, and so will you.
But for those other 17+ years, sleep can still seem a bit elusive. There are a hundred tasks to get done and a thousand things to plan and worry over. Today’s verse is beautifully simple, and so is today’s thought. Yes, all of the things and thoughts remain. Put them down, lay down your head, and trust in Jesus -- He will sustain you. Sleep. Not metaphorically. Literally, sleep.
If you need to make some practical adjustments to how you manage your life to make this possible, start that adjustment today. Because I love the middle of this verse, “I woke again”. Wake again, recharged, renewed, and ready to work from rest.
Jesus, I surrender every task, plan, and worry to You. I ask for life-giving sleep in exchange. Thank You for sustaining me in every season. Amen.
Pro-Tip: If you know a momma to a newborn, reach out to her today and give her the sweet gift of a nap! Seriously, that woman you are thinking of right now, text her!
