The Bible in 12 Days : Discover God’s Story of RedemptionSample
Part 11: Jesus!! The King is Here!!
Scripture Covering this Period:
- Matthew
- Mark
- Luke
- John
Dates:
- c. 4BC - AD30
Main Points:
1. Jesus fulfilled:
- The Messianic prophecies in the Law, Psalms, and Prophets (Luke 24:44);
- Abrahamic Covenant (Gal 3:8-9);
- Mosaic Covenant (Gal 3:13; Heb 9:26; 10:12-14);
- Davidic Covenant (Matt 21:9 Rev 11:15; 17:14)
2. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus instituted a New Covenant (Matt 26:26-28; Heb 8:6-12) that:
- Reconciles humanity’s relationship with God
- Accomplishes forgiveness of sin
- Offers humanity the gift of God’s Spirit
- Is participated in through faith
3. Before ascending to the Father, Jesus leaves his followers with the Great Commission. (Matt 28:19; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:47; John 21:17; Acts 1:8)
Summary:
When Jesus came on the scene, Rome was the world’s ruling power. Some Jews viewed them as the enemy from whom the Messianic King would bring deliverance. Some even expected two different messiahs! One would be a priest bringing religious reforms; the other, a conquering king who would re-establish Israel as a sovereign state. This is why so many Jews misunderstood the mission of Jesus. He was the one Messiah promised in the Scriptures, who brought forgiveness of sins, defeated Satan (that ancient serpent, humanity’s real enemy), and began to spiritually re-establish God’s Kingdom on earth.
About this Plan
This plan is a guide to discover God’s story as it unfolds in the Bible - from Genesis through Revelation. Over 12 days, each devotional will introduce one part of that story. Each will list the Scripture passages covering that period, and dates, highlight its main points and briefly summarize the part it plays within the context of God’s redemptive plan. The Bible reading each day should take about 30 minutes.
