DAY 8 OF 24

It is consistent with human nature to be inward focused. We are always thinking about what we want and how we can get it. After all, we’re all trying to be the biggest, best, most successful version of ourselves right? Isn’t it interesting that Paul instructs us to do the exact opposite in this passage? It’s easy to make excuses for being selfish. You may be thinking about the last time you spent that extra $10 on coffee instead of being generous with it. Or the time you decided to watch Netflix instead of helping a friend with a project. You might say to yourself, “But I deserve this! I earned it!”

Jesus, the Son of God and Savior of the universe (aka the MVP of all MVPs), humbles Himself and takes the position of a slave in order to obey God and serve people. If anyone deserved fame and fortune, it was Jesus. But instead, He offered His life to bring glory to the Name of God. If we are called to be like Jesus, we should take this same position. How often do you intentionally practice humility? Today, make a conscious effort to lay down your pride and ask God, “What can I do for YOUR Kingdom?” As you can see in verse 9, God honors the humble.

Prayer points:

  • Thank Jesus for the ultimate sacrifice He made for you. For dying a criminal’s death on a cross so that you would live in eternity with God.
  • Ask God to open doors and create opportunities for you to be like Jesus and practice humility.
  • Pray for God to reveal any area of your life where you feel prideful or selfish.
