Use Your Keys: Finding Purpose in LifeSample
Excuses
I can talk about your excuses because I have made every one of them myself. I became focused on earthly matters and pushed the eternal ones aside. Life interfered, and I got distracted. I lost my love for others, and I lost my sense of urgency. I don’t know what you believe about the end times, but it’s impossible to look at the world and not think we might be living in the season of the last days. Jesus is returning soon for His bride. It might be one minute from now, or it might be one hundred years, but there is an urgency to open the gates for others.
I’m sorry if it hurts to hear me saying that nothing going on in your life truly matters. I know that comment might offend some people. But it’s true. Everything going on in your life is irrelevant because it is temporary. Nothing happening to you is more important than the fact that people are going to hell. If we truly understood that truth, we would be desperately trying to help them.
Did you know that one of the biggest excuses people make is that they don’t have enough knowledge about the Bible to share it? I know that it can be intimidating. I felt that way myself early in my walk with the Lord. But when I said that to Him, He asked me, “well, what are you doing to gain it?”
That was not easy to hear, but it was certainly true. Spending an hour in church and listening to Christian music isn’t enough. Scripture tells us in 1 Peter 3:15 that we should have an answer for anyone who asks us, and we should be ready and able to give our reasons and defend our faith. If you want to be able to do that, then you should be spending every waking moment figuring out who He is, learning His character, memorizing His story, and digging into His Word.
On the other hand, I want to encourage you. You really don’t need a lot of knowledge to share the Good News. You simply need to know that Jesus is the Messiah. He came to rescue us–think about the woman at the well! She had one experience with Jesus and ran off to tell everyone she knew.
Here’s my definition of the salvation He offers us summed up in just one sentence, “The Gospel is God setting aside His anger and proclaiming us just, despite our sin, by giving us credit for the righteousness of Jesus Christ.” If you know that, you know enough.
So, start practicing. Go tell at least one person about Jesus today.
