Sex & Sexuality - God’s Ways vs. The World’s WaysSample
No Compromise
God’s ways are the best ways, but how do we actually walk them out? Are small, occasional compromises really that big of a deal?
- We are tempted to compromise when we forget why it matters.
- We are tempted to compromise when we believe the lie that God is not coming for us.
- We are tempted to compromise when we believe the lie that what we will get (from the temporary thrill of sin) will be more than what we will lose (the ramifications of sin).
- We are tempted to compromise again after a regrettable choice, thinking the second compromise doesn’t matter as much because “I already did it.”
In each moment of difficulty, we are faced with the choice to either settle for a cheap imitation of what we think we need or choose Jesus and trust that He knows and provides what we need. Each time I chose to turn to Jesus, my "muscles" to stand where I previously used to fall, grew stronger and stronger. Those old temptations began to lose their power. With each decision to choose Him, I discovered more and more of who He is, and began to see that knowing Him would be a life-long adventure.
Talk with Jesus
As you read today’s verses, bring these questions to Jesus and talk with Him about them:
- What has been my relationship with compromise? What does it look like to turn to You in those moments of temptation to compromise?
- Search my heart and show me if there are any areas where I am vulnerable to compromise. How are You leading me to respond?
Note: The PureHeart Challenge—Plan 4 spends 5 days on the topic of learning to resist temptation.
Prayer: God, I say “No more!” to compromise in my life. Strengthen my resolve to say no to anything that is not from You. Open my eyes to see Your good and perfect gifts for me.
