Connecting With God Through PrayerSample
I want what You want…
"'You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it.'" (John 14:14, NIV)
Somehow for years, I thought this verse meant I just had to end every prayer with the words, "In Jesus' name, amen." But do you know what Jesus really means here?
He's all about us aligning our desires with what He desires. That's what the disciples understood at that moment.
But how do you do that? How are you supposed to pray when you don't always know what God's will is? The Holy Spirit wants to help you with that:
"And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will." (Romans 8:26-27, NLT)
Now this is good news! God has your best interests at heart, and because of that, when you say yes to His plans and purposes, you receive so much more than you could ever want for yourself. More life. More joy. More of everything He has for you!
Jesus knows what is good for you, and following His desires over your own will make you so much happier. The verse that immediately follows confirms it: "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them." (Romans 8:28, NLT)
Would you like to start doing that today? Letting go by praying and trusting Him? Then I'd invite you to join me in saying this prayer today,"Jesus, I desire what You desire. I will walk on the path You've prepared for me. Holy Spirit, may I understand what You're showing me, the truths You want to reveal to me through Your Word. Please help me to find the right words when I pray. Amen."
You are a miracle!
