Song of Salvation

DAY 1 OF 6

God is no longer angry

I will give thanks to you, O Lord,
for though you were angry with me,
your anger turned away,
that you might comfort me.” (Isaiah 12:1)

The prophet Isaiah had the difficult task of rebuking and warning his people of God’s judgment that would come upon them if they kept sinning. Sadly, the Israelites did not pay much attention to Isaiah’s words and they did not repent. Therefore, God sent them into exile. But Isaiah also prophesied about a time of restoration, when God would bring the people back to their country. In that day, Isaiah 12:1 says, they would thank God that He was no longer angry with them and comforted them instead.

The experience expressed in this verse is not limited to the people of Israel only. All humans are “by nature deserving of wrath.” (Ephesians 2:3) We have all sinned, and therefore God has every right to be angry with us. But because of His great love for us, Jesus bore the wrath Himself. He became sin for us, so that we can receive forgiveness for free. Our relationship with God can be restored.

Have you accepted God’s offer of forgiveness and reconciliation? Then echo Isaiah 12:1 in your personal prayers: “I will give thanks to you, O Lord… for your anger turned away!”
