Stressed Out

DAY 12 OF 15

After God ushered in miraculous and destructive plagues, Moses led God’s people out of slavery in Egypt. Then God led His people by a pillar of fire by day and a cloud by night to a mountain. At the mountain, God had said that the nation was to be His treasured possession if they just followed His commands and kept the covenant with Him. The people agreed to do all that God asked of them. Then God asked Moses to come up to the mountain so He could give him laws to show the people the best way to live. Moses went up to the mountain, but he had been gone for a long time. Weeks. And the people’s minds began to be filled with worries and what-ifs. So they took matters into their own hands, and asked Moses’s brother Aaron to make an idol out of gold that they could follow. God was brokenhearted. His nation was to be His treasured possession, but in days, they had already turned away from Him.

Our hearts, sadly, can be like the people’s. When God takes a long time to answer prayer, or when it seems He’s inactive, we can start to fret and scramble. When you notice your heart doing that, stop. Ask Him for help. Throw the weight of your trust on Him. His Word promises that He is working for something good (Romans 8:28), even if you can’t see what He’s up to. He knows our view is limited, and He treasures when we choose to trust in Him through our what-ifs. Trust without evidence is a precious, precious gift to Him.

About this Plan

Stressed Out

Most of us feel stressed out. A lot of us have been pushed to our mental, emotional, and physical limits. So much of life is bigger than we are—it’s out of our control. Life can leave us feeling helpless and weighed down. But being stressed out is not how God wants us to live. We’ll look at what God wants us to do with the stress we feel.
