It’s easy to read this text and identify some challenges. “Work with enthusiasm,” “Be strong.” Reading it now, I see Paul showing us (1) The opportunity, and (2) The practical “HOW” of how to succeed in our walk with Jesus. “Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” This is a great opportunity we get no matter where we go every single day. Through fixing our eyes on Jesus we can let the work of our speech and hands reflect the passion and love within our hearts. Which may not be seen amongst your peers, or even received, but is seen and even rewarded by God no matter what status you have here on Earth! Whether you’re high on the totem pole, new at school or in the office, or staying at home with the kids and caring for your household. The opportunity to express your love for Jesus through how you work and conduct yourself is the same!
Paul also reminds us to lean on the Lord’s power and not our own in verse 10. Read verses 11 & 12 and remind yourself of who the true enemy is, and it’s not just your current circumstances. A look at John 10:10 reminds us of Satan’s job description: A thief that only comes to kill, steal and destroy. Whether that be joy and passion for today, or hopes and dreams for tomorrow. However, it also reminds us that Jesus came to give us life and life to the full! Filled with joy, passion, and hope for tomorrow! When we put on the armor of God, it gives us a sturdy foundation to stand upon. Completely built on Jesus. Let that be where you fight from today.
