Have you ever tried to follow someone that you didn’t know very well? Maybe it was a new boss or a tour guide. Maybe it is just me, but there can be a certain level of skepticism about following someone that I don’t know all that much about. I find myself searching for clues in their speech and action that tell me about their character or their plan.
These four verses that we read today are packed full of clues that are true throughout scripture that tell us about God’s character and His plan. As Paul continues on in the opening portion of his letter to the church of Ephesus, he poetically praises God. He highlights some really beautiful, stop you in your tracks, kinds of things about God's character. Paul writes about how God is rich in kindness and grace. So rich that He made a sacrifice that no parent today can imagine making. Take a few moments out of your day today and remind yourself today that you are the recipient of a kind and gracious God’s sacrifice of all sacrifices. What a privilege it is to be loved like that.
In verse 10, Paul gives us a brief but profound glimpse into how God isn’t just blindly gracious and sacrificial but that He has a plan, a vision, and a goal. This verse tells us that there will be a day when everything will be brought together under the authority of Jesus - the pinnacle of history. A day when every person, no matter if they have acknowledged Him as such before, will acknowledge Jesus as King. What a deserving day of worship that will be for Jesus.
