EphesiansSample
In this passage, Paul encourages us to “throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.” I believe Paul is trying to show that there's a different and better way to live life when we choose to follow Jesus. A life where we can walk in freedom, throw off shame, and fully be transformed by the grace of God. A life where we can find true and lasting fulfillment that can only be found in Jesus!
He then proceeds to say, “let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.” This is showing us how we can access that life daily. We have access to the Holy Spirit who can guide us, renew us, and make us more like Jesus every day, we just have to ask! No matter what your week looked like, what heavy situations you have in your life, or what relational stress you may be experiencing, you can ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom to handle each area of your life like Jesus would.
Last he says, “Put on your new nature, created to be like God- truly righteous and holy.” When he refers to our “new nature” Paul is saying that instead of what our flesh leans to, we can live our lives like Christ - one where we take away things like lying, anger, gossip, and revenge, and instead replace them with truth, peace, encouragement, and forgiveness. With Jesus, there's always a better way. We no longer have to stay where we are, but we can step into the life God has for us!
