Your Work Matters

DAY 4 OF 5

Devotional Content

ARE YOU A SHINING LIGHT?

In the work place, even the tiniest light brings glory to the Father. Believe that you can make a difference for Christ right where you are!

Nothing combats darkness like light.

A single match, a flashlight, or a light bulb can overtake great darkness, and no amount of darkness can overtake even the smallest light.

Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden. And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put it on a lamp stand so the light shines for all the people in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and will praise your Father in heaven.”

Another version says, “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

No matter how small your light, remember that in a dark world, it’s a very bright light that brings glory to your Father! Today I hope you will believe that you can make a difference for Christ right where you are. Take a look at the following L-I-G-H-T acrostic to see how.

L – Love people unconditionally.

The most authentic way to display Christ-likeness is to love without condition. This is unchanging love without bounds, affection without limits, and care under all circumstances. It’s love unhindered by pressuring those you love to perform. Romans 12:10 says it best: “Be devoted to one another in love.”

I – Invest in people.

I like what John Maxwell says, “If you live life with the intention of making a difference in others’ lives, your life will be full, not empty. That is the true reason for living.”

G – Go the second mile. (Anyone can go the first mile).

Luke 6: 27 says, “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

H – Hold others in high esteem.

Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”

T – Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Luke 6:31 says, “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” To be the light of Christ, just think about how it feels to be in someone’s shoes, then act with compassion.

As you interact with others today in your office, remember that just a little light makes a big difference.
