Gratitude: The Game Changer

DAY 3 OF 5

Write it Down

We tend to forget how blessed we are—especially when everything goes sideways. That’s why it is essential to write down your gratitude for those moments you need reminding.

Writing things down helps fix gratitude in our minds. Studies even show that gratitude journaling helps improve your mental health and reduces stress.

When we focus on the good, we tell our brains to actively search for it.

God knew we would have trouble focusing on the good. This is because our brains are great problem solvers. That’s how we have survived throughout time. But that also means our brains are constantly searching for problems to solve.

Journaling your gratitude regularly can help you stay focused on the good. It reminds our brains to start looking for things going right instead of something going wrong that we will need to solve.

God’s word encourages us to write things down. Habakkuk 2:2 (NIV) says, Then the Lord replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.”

Action: Maybe you don’t know how to start writing down your gratitude. That’s ok. Here are some journaling prompts to get you started:

-What people in your life make you smile?

-What is the best thing about today?

-What scripture is speaking to you today?

-What is your favorite thing that happened in the last 24 hours?

Write down scriptures, memories, funny things your kid said, or a sweet gesture from a coworker. Spending just a few moments each day writing down things you are grateful for will help you stay focused on the good.

Prayer: Lord, I have so much to be grateful for! The gift of your son dying on a cross for me is more than I deserve, and yet, you still bless me with good things. Thank you for the air I breathe, the clean water I drink, and the roof over my head. I am grateful for all you do for me every day. Please remind me to notice it! In Jesus’ name, amen.
